The Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum (TSIMF) was established by Shing-Tung Yau, an internationally renowned mathematics master. During the construction process, it received strong support from the country’s leaders in Hainan Province, Sanya City, and other relevant locations. On June 10, 2010, Tsinghua University signed a construction agreement with the People's Government of Sanya City. The Sanya City Government granted rights to use 140 acres of land in Phoenix Town to Tsinghua University and launched the construction project of TSIMF. In May 2013, the Tsinghua University School Committee approved TSIMF to begin construction, operation, management and service of the Forum. Under the donation of Tsinghua alumni Shi Weixue, and after more than a year of construction, the Forum was completed. On December 18, 2013, the opening ceremony of the 4th Tsinghua International Forum on Mathematics and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Forum were held at the permanent venue of the TSIMF, marking the official start of the forum.

More than 60 international mathematics conferences have been held at TSIMF in the past three years. Nobel Prize winners, Fields Medal winners, experts and scholars from more than 50 countries have come to attend international academic conferences representing almost all the world-class universities and major academic research institutions. The TSIMF has begun to have great influence in the international mathematics community and has become well-known around the world.

The staff of TSIMF and the Property Department are working hard to build a concept of “faith, unity, and struggle” to promote global awareness. In the future, the forum will host a series of international academic conferences and seminars, which will play a role in promoting the development of mathematics in China and the world, as well as other natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. Through the influence of such international academic activities, the TSIMF has become not only a world-renowned academic conference center, but also a new city name card for Sanya City, contributing to the comprehensive development of Hainan Province and Sanya City.
